Creating Innovative Products in essence involves having a USP for your product.

‘USP’ is an acronym for ‘Unique Sales Proposition’. This just means the features your product has that your competitors don’t, or the unique angle your product takes towards solving the problem. The great news is information products are the easiest products of all to find a USP for. Information can be compiled in a million different ways.

You just need to ask "What can I do for my customers that others don’t do?". The answer to this question is the answer to creating innovative products.

Your product will fall into one of 3 different categories:

Category 1) My product delivers the same results as other products with roughly same methodology.

Most products are like this. Find your USP by asking:

How can I make it:

- Better?

- Faster?

- Easier to understand?

What extra information or detail can I include?

Can I add Video? Video is much easier to create than you may think. A lot of the time it’s just talking over a few PowerPoint slides.

Can I add Audio? Interview an expert on the phone or read out a book aloud and record it.

Can I add Bonuses? Can I add other related products? PLR? Can I add Private Label Rights material?

Can I get experts to lend their name, advice or opinion?

Can I provide extra support via email or telephone? Coaching?

How can I over deliver?

Can my information be delivered in a different style Such as controversially or friendlier?

What Story can I tell? Stories are incredibly powerful and connect with the customer

What can I do for my customers that others don’t do?

Category 2) My product delivers the same results as other products with a unique methodology

Your USP is the different methodology, plus whatever else you can do.

Category 3) My product delivers a unique set of results (solves a previously unsolved problem)

Your USP is the new solution for a new problem, plus whatever else you can do.

Still stuck? Look at other products from unrelated fields and see what they use as their USP. Can you do the same?

Still stuck? Don’t worry. A lot of the time you won’t think of your USP until you’ve done your Product Research. As you do this you’ll be looking closely at the subject and likely see how to do things better and so create your USP. DO NOT let a lack of USP stop you from creating your product. You’ll find it, don’t worry.

It’s worth noting that a lot of products are no different to their competitors – they just market themselves differently. And if you want to do that then that’s absolutely fine. So long as your product gives the customer what they want and you are very confident in your marketing there’s no problem.

Creating innovative products means provide something unique in your product, it’s often not as hard as people think.
